Packing Instructions
Proper Storage of the Panasonic AG-UX180 in its bag:
- Ensure SD cards are removed and the lens cover is in the closed position
- Remove any battery from the camera and store them appropriately in the camera bag
- Ensure all cables and the battery charger is in the smaller inside compartment
- Place camera in the large inside compartment with the lens facing away from the accessories
- Store sound equipment in the side pouch
Cases and foam padding are integral for the protection and safe transportation of equipment. Damage or destruction to the case or foam padding should be reported to the store and the appropriate form filled in for consideration by the technical managers.
Health and Safety
Bags - All bags and cases must be stored in a safe location away from any thoroughfares.
Tripod - The tripod must be set up correctly on even ground, ensuring the spreader is locked, the legs are raised evenly and do not slip under pressure.
Mounting the Camera - Make sure that the camera is mounted on the tripod correctly ensuring the plate is fastened securely to both the camera and the tripod.
Stability - Ensure that if the camera is front or back heavy there is a supporting leg taking that weight.
Induction Checklist
Battery - Show how to insert the battery into the back of the camera.
SD Card - Identify SD card slots, explain use the need for SDXC cards for 4K shooting and mention that standard SDHC will suffice for FHD shooting.
Power Switch - Highlight location of the power switch, push down on the white button and slide it into the ‘On’ position.
EVF - Bring the students attention to the location of the EVF and how to remove it from it’s holster, explain that the EVF must be returned to its original location before it is placed in the bag (We’ll enlist the help of the store to check this)
Lens Cover - Explain the importance and the location of the lens cover.
Focus - The first ring on the camera is the focus ring, explain its use and draw attention to the macro focus option if appropriate (default for Macro focus is USER Button 2)
Zoom - There are 3 ways to zoom on the camera, the ring, or the two rockers, point each one out.
Iris - Explain the use of the iris and F-Stops if level appropriate, (This camera goes to Open F3 to Close F11
Gain - Explain the use of gain and its drawbacks, there are two ways to use the gain on this camera, if you simple push the gain button it will toggle between 3 different gain settings (High, Mid, Low) however if you use the SEL/PUSH/SET wheel to select ‘GAIN’ (it will be orange if selected) then you can push the SEL/PUSH/SET wheel to manually set the gain from 0dB through to 24dB
White Balance - There are few ways of setting the white balance, you can push the white balance but until Ach or Bch is selected and from there hold up a white object and use the AWB button on the front of the camera to automatically calibrate the white balance. You can push the white balance button until PRST is selected and then use the SEL/PUSH/SET wheel to select VAR and push the SEL/PUSH/SET wheel in to allow you to use the wheel to now set a manual white balance.
Shutter - The shutter button can be used to set an auto shutter for the camera or it can pushed again to allow a manual shutter speed to be set using the SEL/PUSH/SET wheel.
Focus (Auto, Man, Inf) Focus Assist, Push Auto. - Draw attention to the focus button
Record Button - Indicate the location of the record button
Thumbnail - The thumbnail button allows students to review the footage they have captured.
Slow-Motion - To use slow motion set the Recording Format to FHD 25p 50M (We need to assign a user switch we all agree on to Slow Mo, I think 3 will be the best) Activate the user switch
Time-lapse - This is under Interval Recording in the menu. Remember to set a slower shutter speed if motion blur is desired.
Be aware that when hiring equipment, you are fully responsible for that equipment, take note when unpacking so that when packing away the equipment is stored in the same way. All equipment is packed in a specific way to avoid damage and wearing to the equipment. If it isn’t stored correctly you are liable for a fine.
